collagen peptides

What is collagen?

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and it accounts for over 30% of your body’s protein. As the key building blocks that provide support and structure to our body, collagen is present in all connective tissues such as skin, bones, cartilage, tendons, ligaments and blood vessels. As the structural framework of the body, collagen plays a crucial role in terms of supporting and connecting everything together.

Approximately twenty-eight different types of collagen have been identified, three of which are the most common. Type I collagen occurs most frequently, primarily in connective tissue such as skin, bone and tendons. Meanwhile, Type II collagen is almost exclusively present in cartilage tissue. Type III collagen is often associated with Type I collagen.

A healthy amount and structure of collagen are signs of youth. With age, collagen fragmentation increases as enzyme breakdown becomes more active while collagen production decreases. In other words, your body starts to produce less collagen. As a result, connective tissues containing collagen can be affected, such as tissues in the skin, bones and joints.

What are SOLUGEL® collagen peptides?

Collagen peptides, also known as collagen hydrolysate or hydrolyzed collagen, is a highly digestible protein that is produced from connective tissue found in animal skins, hides and bones. It is obtained through the enzymatic treatment of collagen rich materials, which reduce the collagen proteins into small peptides to make them easily digestible by the human body.

Several clinical studies have proven the health benefits of collagen peptides. These benefits include beauty, bone and joint health, satiety, as well as sports nutrition, which contribute to different growing consumer trends including healthy aging, weight management, skin health and an active lifestyle.
