Phytosterols
Phytosterol, also called plant sterol, is a group of steroid alcohol or phytochemical which naturally exists in plants. In general, it can only be naturally synthesized in small quantities in vegetable oil. One such phytosterol complex, which is isolated from vegetable oil, is composed of campesterol, stigmasterol and brassicasterol. It can also be used as a dietary supplement. With its mild and characteristic odor, phytosterol is a kind of white powder which is insoluble in water, but soluble in alcohols. As a result, it is used in medicine and cosmetics. It can also be used as a food additive to lower cholesterol.
